From AI to AGI: The Quest for True Intelligence

The pursuit of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has captivated researchers for decades. While the field of AI has made remarkable strides, AGI remains an elusive frontier. This talk examines the evolution of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their potential as stepping stones towards AGI, focusing on Google’s groundbreaking Gemini. We’ll explore Gemini’s unique capabilities, particularly its multimodal understanding and extended context window, which propel it beyond conventional LLMs and bring us closer to bridging the gap between narrow AI and true general intelligence. However, the path to AGI is paved with challenges. This talk will critically analyze limitations hindering progress, including data biases, evaluation complexities, inherent model limitations, pretraining constraints, and the ongoing struggle to effectively fine-tune models post-training.
